This project involved the addition of two classrooms, a shared kid's kitchen, and interactive nature-play courtyard. Fresh colours brighten the interior spaces, which extend into the outdoors with direct connection to the landscaped play spaces. Natural timbers envelope the outdoor areas to create an interactive and sheltered space for children to play and learn.
Yorrl Park is a registered Aboriginal Heritage site in Albany/ Kinjarling. It is significant to the Minang Noongar people.as a place for camp and ceremony, a place near the water and the fire.
H+H Architects were engaged by The Albany Heritage Reference Group Aboriginal Corporation to deliver a heritage trail at the site interpreting its significance to local Minang Noongar People.
The project was undertaken in consultation with the Albany Aboriginal community and local schools to create a trail and a series of interpretation nodes with signage on locally sourced boulders with the text in Noongar and English and the artwork prepared by school students.
The Fishtraps Boardwalk project was designed as an interpretation installation to lightly touch the landscape. Winding boardwalks hover over the banks of Oyster Harbour, so people can meander through the historical Aboriginal Fish Traps site and view the surrounding landscape.
Extensive landscaping works have now integrated the newly constructed buildings with the earlier building stages into an attractive setting with paved activity areas, a school vegetable garden and access paths linking the various building levels, oval and existing school facilities.
The St Joseph's Early Learning Centre area provides an opportunity for children to develop a range of physical, sensory and intellectual skills in a wonderful natural playing environment.
The Little Grove Primary School shares its grounds with the larger community and this water play park is the first stage of a broader educational play space proposed for the site. It features hand operated pumps, a creek bed, an engineered rock mound plus timber decks and bridges. The play space encourages creativity and bush-play skills in a natural setting.
This multifunction community centre is the first stage of a large development in Lockyer in Albany by Juniper. The building is a flexible and contemporary facility with a Cafe, function space, offices, workshop, and space for various community events and activities. The landscaping responds to the spaces surrounding it, with a sheltered alfresco area with large inbuilt BBQ, and secure Kid's grassed play area. Waterwise native plants were planted along the wide verge, which when mature, will blur the definition between the building and road, and soften the elevation. Large format feature pavers surround the site with compliant access to all areas.
